Our favourite project this week was this elegant glass art installation over three mirror panels in a client’s bedroom.
Mounting big mirrors on walls in this way is a handy trick for making a room appear much bigger than it actually is. The effect still works if you apply decorative vinyl decals to the mirrors, especially when you leave sizeable gaps where the reflective surface can show through.
The panels these mirrors are mounted on are actually the doors of a large walk-in cupboard. Inside the cupboard is a full length mirror, so the couple didn’t actually need these additional mirrors when getting dressed. Instead of leaving the mirrors plain, they’ve decided to use them as an opportunity to install this elegant piece of glass art in their bedroom.
This example shows that while window vinyl has many practical uses in both home and office settings – such as providing privacy, eliminating glare, controlling temperature and so on – it can also be used for purely aesthetic reasons. This installation is especially elegant because of the long, clean lines used in this simple, romantic design.
