Job of the week: opaque glass offers privacy without darkening the room | WindowArt

The client featured in this image had a very specific need when they turned to Window Art for a solution. The image above is the external view of a student counsellor’s office at a small tertiary institute.

Student counselling is concerned with the welfare and personal wellbeing of the students who attend these sessions. The dialogue between the student and the counsellor is private in nature so the space had to correlate to this idea.

Window vinyl creates privacy without compromising light.

While there are many different solutions to obtaining privacy in this space, none are quite as clean and uncluttered as simply using opaque glass. Blinds or curtains would have darkened the office and made it seem smaller than it is.

The client felt that the office should be brightened up and opened up considering the nature of the work being done there. This office sees many young adults through its doors and the client felt that while privacy was the primary goal, a modern and trendy window treatment would make everyone feel more at ease.

Windows can be decorated with inspirational wording.

When the client decided on opaque glass as the solution to their privacy needs, they were keen on a design element that would not hinder the privacy factor. As you can see, the design encompasses simply positive wording of the client’s choice that does not affect the level of privacy at all.

As you may notice, in the reflection of the windows that have been photographed, there is a path that winds past this office and there is quite a bit of traffic that passes. The use of opaque glass allows for meetings to remain discreet without a fear of the passersby peering in.

The result is that of an installation that meets the clients sensitive needs.
